You started 2 threads on this, so to keep it simple, 50 miles here on LI is not like drving 50 miles in the sticks, and if you're off LI, to go to Amtyville it could take 2.5 to 3 hours driving depending on the time, not to mention the tolls someone already mentioned. In the other thread, you said you're looking to rent, not buy. For nearby better schools, try Lindenhurst, West Babylon, and Babylon. Your best nearby option is probably Massapequa SD, but I doubt there are a lot of houses to rent there. If so, you're looking at $2500 to $3,000 to rent a 3 br., and add $300-400 for oil.

Makes no sense to me. Why would you want to live 50 miles away from where you work? Is the job really worth the trip? 25 miles yes but 50 miles is a bit ridiculous. Why not live on LI, maybe not amityville but somewhere nice with a decent SD.

Let me get a better understanding of your situation, by asking what your husband does for a living. I'm curious about how anyone, could land a job in Amityville,
while living now in Texas. Actually, I wasn't aware that there were any new and well paying jobs, there in Amityville, and unless your husband is a specialist at something
besides manufacturing, employment opportunities here, are scarce. If you can afford to live here on Long Island, you'll find many nice places, and all not too far from Amityville.
As a favor, you could DM me with the name of your husband's prospective company, I'd love to send them my resume. I've been out of work for a long, long time now...

Still see no response from the OP about their budget. Without at least an approximate amount, what's the use in throwing out names of locations? Does anyone have a clue what they can afford?

It may be that the job is at the Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) in North Amityville ("Amityville, NY 11701" mailing address).

We live in a 4/2/2 2600 sq ft house and pay $1500 a month. What could we be looking at there for rent?
I hope this isn't another case of "unscrupulous and cheap Long Island employer lures out-of-towner to work for a salary that may look good in Texas, but is too low to actually support a family on in New York."

Eddie, it's probably the used car lot, "CARFELLAS," and it's close by you and you'd fit in great!

We will be looking for a 3 to 4 bedroom. My husband has traveled all over. So he is use to cold weather, he is not from Texas only I am. I know the house cost is going to be $2500-$3500. Is the fuel cost per month? What does electric and water run a month? We were thinking 50 miles because that is what he drives now and it takes about an hour and half. But we have been told that the traffic is much worse so we need to stay on LI. So we will be looking to stay on LI.
