As far as restaurants, I can list 20 of my favorites that are within 5-10 minutes of my area that I guarantee you are better than anything in your area. If I stretch it out to 20 minutes I can access pretty much all of Nassaus fine dining. Plus I'm five minutes from a nice little walkable downtown area with tons of shops and bars.

The pumpkin picking thing is a little crazy. Melville has pretty much the same things as Harbes. Pumpkin Picking, Pony Rides, Corn Maze, Hayrides, Petting zoo etc. It's loads of fun. The one in Coram is pretty much the same thing. And I can get out to Tanger and the Riverhead area in less than 1 hour if I wanted to because of easy access to good highways. Roosevelt field mall or the coliseum in 15 minutes. JFK/25 minutes, LGA/Citi in 35. Not too mention access to real public transport and good LIRR service to the city and easier/faster access to better jobs.

We have movie theatres, bowling, mini golf, billiards, bars, sidewalks, museums, street fairs...We have 5 or 6 amazing parks within 5 minutes. A preserve with awesome bike trail. I could drive to Jones in 10-15 or RM, long beach, pt lookout in 25. I could bike to Jones beach in 35 minutes. I could be on a beach on the bay in less than 5 minutes. We have TOBAY too . Better than solid school districts. I really don't see where you're going with any of this.

The only reason I'm bringing this up is because you claimed the South SHore doesn't have all this.

Have you ever been to the South Shore Nassau area / South Shore west-Suffolk?

Also with the Ferry. You're talking about spending $50 to $70 ONE WAY. Not very practical. We should've built that bridge to CT. Oh yeah, and the nautical mile is within 10-15 minutes with the freeport casino boat(vomit) w/real card games. Id rather go to AC.
I personally don't like Nassau and have no need for it unless i'm visiting a friend or 2. When we take the kids for the pumpkins, hayrides, etc...it is about the atmosphere. Melville and coram might offer the hayrides and the corn maze as well but it is not the same. Papa John's and Satellite Pizza obviously sell pizza but if I want a real slice i'm not going to go to either. I'll stop off at Colisseo. So yes, the south shore does have movie theatres, restaurants (chinese, italian), miniature golf and other things but if I want a better pizza place, better chinese place, etc...I stay on the north shore. I do agree that the freeport casino as well as Empire both are lame and definitely agree and wish they would have built the bridge to Conn, but if you can't see my point you might have frequent these areas more. By the way, you drive an hour to the Riverhead outlets? I drive 15 minutes.

BTW Marconi is South Shore...I believe you mean Tesla.

There is a rumor that if you crawl in the tunnel under Marconis door youll pop up by Big Chief Lewis.
I think thats how we wound up with Gps.

That's Marconi's shack outside the RPHS if memory serves...that's the door I allude to...shack moved from south shore to north shore....

LOL Really? Even in Nassau?

Really? Better pizza places and chinese? Go look at Zagat, 4 out of 5 of their top rated restaurants for LI are in Nassau/west suffolk. The famed and hyped Colosseo doesn't even make the list. The ones in Suffolk are mostly in the hamptons.

Go try Umbertos, Minami or Asian Moon when you do your annual trip through Nassau. TBH, I think Suffolk is pretty dumpy for the most part. I don't have much of a need for visiting either besides the annual trips out to the country..and even then I could get to most parts of South Suffolk just as fast as you can from the silver coast. I still never caught exactly where youre located?? Because RP is 25 minutes to RH. I could probably get to Mattituck in around the same time as someone from the Setaukets, how crazy is that?

It's mind boggling sean. Someone that lives on LI having never had real pizza -- like Umbertos in NHP (and Wantagh), King Umberto, Cuginis, Grimaldis, even Ginos in Mass pk...pretty much the best pizza in the world is in Nassau & NYC. I don't even think Crooks would make a statement like that and be able to keep a straight face . Anyway, ignorance is bliss I guess...

About the same way as figuring Umbertos(or anything in the Hamptons) is on par with Collisseo. The only thing on par with Collisseo out of Manhattan is Spumoni Gardens in Bklyn.Be that as it may Im just glad we have completely derailed this thread with moronica.Maybe we can pick up the Pizza debate on any random Motzohpizza thread if you prefer. Its equally as futile and random.

Well, you guys are making me jealous. There is no real pizza whatsoever in the entire state of California. Or rye bread.

It's about an hour from Setaukets (on 25A)? vs about an hour and fifteen minutes (straight shot via Sunrise Hwy east) for Mass Park. Is lance from RP or what?

Straight shot to Mattituck on Sunrise Pequa?? how do you figure? I didn't know Mattituck was on the South Shore and last time I checked Sunrise Highway did not run north/south. Thats almost as bad as the 5 minutes to the LIE from RP.
