Never been to an 84 lumber but I pass by the one in Islip all the time and it's closed and all the wood in the lot is gone. Did they file chapter 11? I wonder what they are going to put there in it's place?

The one in Smithtown closed a couple of years ago as did the Nassau/Suffolk lumber yard. 84 had low prices, especially on moulding, I was sorry to see them go.

It didnt stand a chance with Lowes and Home Depot being 3 miles away.

I see East Islip Lumber is still hanging in there, but for how much longer?

lumber yards sell high quality wood where as lowes and home depot sell a lesser quality product. thats why its cheaper.

And in times like this you bet Moderator cut: language removed that construction owners don't care about the quality if wood. Its all about being the lowest bidder.
