Today's Newsday details how Huntington Superintendent of Highways William Naughton pissed away $93,000 paving a road 2 weeks before it was to be excavated by National Grid to run a pipe.

Naughton claims he didn't know about this. He probably didn't know because of National Grid's clever tactics at keeping it secret, like proposing plans to the Town Council and having a public hearing on the plans that make very evident that a pipe would be run right through the road he chose to pave.

At a time when funds are short just about everywhere, how in the world does this happen? Ask HIM! (631) 351-3076

He has his name painted in large letters on every piece of equipment.larger even than Huntington's,one would think he owned it all.Its just taxpayers $$ so on and on it goes. When the town board asks him to attend a town meeting he simply ignores them.Something to think about come election time.

Did you know his son works for him? He's a "labor leader" at Roads and Highways. I bet his son tries to replace him someday - like this is Chicago politics.

I had NO idea that this man never attends Town Council meetings. That seems pretty detached.

Reminds me of the stupidity on Montauk Highway in East Patchogue last year.

"Let's reconstruct this road!"
"We're done!"
"HURF DURF LET'S WRECK THE ROAD RIGHT WHEN IT'S FINISHED SO THEY CAN LAY SOME PIPE"

They knew it then too.

Since you are recommending we call his office, did you call again yourself? Did anyone actually talk to you?

Seems like back in 2009 you got nowhere with them and all they did was hang up on you.

Default Yes, I called.

I called, and the woman there was very polite. It just so happens that if you call more than three times in a day, their system channels your call to a filled voice mail.

I know because I called every hour on Monday to try to catch Naughton in the office as, evidently, he's never there.

I grew up in Staten Island. As a kid we were smart enough to know when they were going to install sewers, water mains etc. They would pave the roads. Dead giveaway that it was going to be torn up.
