haha childish behavior all over this board..when it comes to someone who is just moving here wtf does it matter to them village vs hamlet vs town vs city vs county vs etc etc etc

the bro needs a place to live - that is the point and he needs it fairly close.

-------------------------------------------------

Sweden, straight up you do not want to live in NYC and commute, you will need a car either way.

And if the station is 5 miles away or 10 miles whats the difference?

IMO Do not limit yourself to one area.

Yes your cats are a major problem, i'd drop em with someone else.

Find a house share - use CL, MLS, Newsday, Backpage - interview people and ask for references, have references available as well...

You can also avoid broker fees by doing this but still may be required to put down First, Last, and Security down -->

House Shares will start around 500 on the extreme low end and may go up to as high as 1500 +

If you try to find an apartment you will probably pay between 900 - 1500 for a one bedroom that is decent and will need to have good credit and if you have pets put a pet deposit down..

Dont be so focused on your one little area - i JUST moved here and tried the same thing you did and found

1) a lot of childish behavior on this board
2) a lot of hair splitting (See childish behavior)
3) brokers are like rats in NYC (everywhere)
4) there are really good deals out there
5) this place is pretty nice despite what this board may lead you to believe
6) it is a little expensive to rent but its not crazy unbearable like some would have you believe
7) You can pretty much get from anywhere to anywhere on this island in a reasonable amount of time (please people dont behead me for this - I do not mean from montauk to west nassau - I mean if you find a place 10 - 15 - 20 miles away you will be alright to commute..)

good luck..

There's plenty of pet friendly apartment rentals on LI, and cats are more favored than dogs in those cases. While you may have to pay more, it's not that easy a decision to just give up a pet for the sake of residence.
