Is Glen Cove a good/safe area? Looking at a place now that is just south of Welywn Preserve Park but as usual, I know nothing about the area?

Also how is the school district?

Parts of Glen Cove are upscale, while parts are not so nice. Areas to avoid are the downtown area around School St, Cedar Swamp and Glen Cove Ave, esp by the hill (projects).
Huge problem with day laborers in the town, which is actually not new. Glen Cove was probably one of the first LI towns to struggle with the problem, which shouldn't be a suprise as its always been surrounded by wealthy areas which use cheap labor.
The nicer parts of Glen Cove are generally from the vicinity of Forest Ave on north.
Also most of the shopping is on Forest Ave with King Kullen and Stop and Shop, which is oddly not served by any bus routes.

The school district has the unfortunate luck of being surrounded by some really excellent districts so it does not look too good by comparison. That is the common problem on the North Shore where Oyster Bay and Glen Cove (for example) are not bad districts but struggle in comparison to their neighbors. Those two districts also have different demographics than their neighbors.

Very mixed both racially and socioeconomically. School District is about 44% Hispanic, 39% White, 12% Black and 4% Asian. The City itself is probably about 50% White, 35% Hispanic, 10% Black and 5% Asian.

School District ranks in the middle of the pack.

The city overall is fairly diverse. It's around 60% White, 30% Hispanic, 5% Black, and 5% Asian. The number of Whites is greatest in the northern portion of the city.
