I'd rather have 1980 G-Wagon...

When looking for cars its cool you can look on Long Island - but why not search all of the U.S.???

Use autotrader and search for "within any miles of zipcode"

Also use ebay and craiglook.com (which searches all craigslists..)

so if Randy Redneck in BFE Tennessee just bought a 96 mustang and has to get rid of his CJ - you can come a long and get it at a better price - then you can either a) drive it to LI or b) have it shipped...

shipping should be less than 500 and if you got a good deal on a good car use that money to get it to you..

ill be purchasing a vehicle in a year or so and look forward to traveling to pick my vehicle up so i can drive it back - and if it messes up on the way im going to get my money back ha.

I would be hesitant buying anything 4WD long distance, sight unseen. My concern would be Randy Redneck went a little Dukes of Hazard on it and I would be stuck with tranny, tie rod, suspension, etc., issues in the long haul.

I have purchased special interest vehicles long distance, and shipping was more than $500 for one out of CA (10 plus years ago) but came in just under $500 each for the other two, larger vehicles coming out of the Midwest. I found a forum where truckers look to pick up loads when they're heading back empty. I wouldn't recommend that for a nice car, but if it's barn fresh or in need of restoration and runs (and ofnthe trucker has ramps) it is an option.
