I saw a show once where someone had brought home a bunch of bananas and went to take one only to discover a huge spider lurking behind. They cought it and had it analized. It was a deadly spider but I forget which kind. I think the sow was on discovery or animal planet. Thankfully no one was bit.
Roaches can come home with you in those brown paper grocery bags. That happened to us once, after which we located the nest, sprayed it like crazy and chased the pests away. They never came back, nor did we bring those bags home. Re-usable bags or plastic, thank you very much.
Bringing take out home in a cardboard box is another way to bring them in. Some delis, Chinese restaurants, etc., will save the boxes products were delivered in to recycle them as take out boxes for people with larger orders. While the boxes are on the side, waiting, the roaches crawl in and wind up going home with an unsuspecting person.

my friend got chinese food from the chinese store next to the precinct and when it was delivered in a box to her home, a roach ran out on to the table!
