i also have these in my basement! eewww!!!! they occasionally end up upstairs on the main floor where sometimes they do escape when i try to kill them. they can be quick when they start hopping all over the place.....LOL!
I notice them in the colder months

I wonder why so many people have them now??? I had never heard of them until a couple of years ago when my mom said she had them, now they see to be all over.

perhaps they hitched rides on the the people that illegally entered the country?

I had read some time ago these crickets were previously common in the American southwest - particularly Arizona/southern California - the article said they most likely came here from travelers from there in their carry-on bags

vert true never thought of that and on a side note that's why we have an influx of diseases coming into the U.S. due to the 3rd worlders.

yuck!!! just killed one this morning! I came home from work last night, came in the house through the garage into the den to find my cat sitting there waiting for me in the dark. i turn the light on and about a foot away from her is a camel cricket sitting on the floor! poor cat....LOL she doesn't even go after them!.....LOL probably had no idea it was even sitting next to her. anyway i tried to get it but it jumped under the couch......ewwwww! well..........that's the one i finally killed this morning.....yay!!

my shed was infested with them this year... every time i'd go to open the shed 10 - 15 of them were sitting on the inside of the door just waiting to scare the crap out of me... then you would hear all the other ones scampering around on the floor...

They're not that bad - from what I've read, they seem to be nothing more than big crickets that can't chirp and can barely see. Harmless.
