Terrible compared to what? By national standards it's a pretty good school.
Is there a place I can get the demographics of school? safety? etc?
I wouldn't want my children going to a demilitarized zone for school and I wouldn't want to pay high taxes and not send them to public school.
I care about safety, bullying, activities and of course education. I feel that if you stay on top of your kid in mostly any school they can excel but the parents won't be around there to protect them from illegal activity, gangs, etc.

There are very, very few public school districts on LI that have what you seem to be most worried about. Probably less than 10 out of over 120 school districts.
As for the "bullying" stuff ... I think it's kind of new for school districts to be doing things to protect against that. Some have programs; some may not. I think nowadays all are at least starting to realize that it's improper behavior and should be handled, unlike in the past where the victim was blamed and bullies were allowed to go wild because "it's just something kids do."

Which 10 should I look to avoid then? I'm assuming Patchogue-Medford SD doesn't have these issues then?
If you're looking for accuracy then I wouldn't go by reputation alone since reputation seems to almost be solely reflected by it's ethnic demographics.

Based on the above ratings, these are the bottom performing school districts on the island (BOTH low greatschools rating+low graduation rate);
- Hempstead schools
- Brentwood schools
- Wyandanch schools
- Central Islip schools
- Roosevelt schools
- Copiague schools
- Freeport schools
- William Floyd schools
These districts are below-average but not as bad as the ones above(EITHER low greatschools rating OR low graduation rate [either one or the other];
- Greenport schools
- Amityville schools
- Longwood schools
- Greenport schools
- Uniondale schools
- Westbury schools
- Bay Shore schools
- Riverhead schools
- Southampton schools

See the list in the post by LI Person.
8 really bad ones to avoid at all costs, but 9 catching up on them.
AFAIK, Pat-Med is nowhere near those depths of despair. I'm more a Nassau person though, but there are plenty of Suffolk residents on here to give you the scoop.
Other than calling the school district is there a way to determine what school your are zonend too from elementary to middle to high school?
Real estate agents and real estate listings usually always know the high school district.
