Just bouncing this out there:

FHDaddy said that Suffolk's higher educational institutions are far better than Nassau's on a whole:

far better than Nassau when it comes to higher education
While I agree that Suffolk has ONE notable higher educational institution, SBU, among many non-notable higher educational institutions, that in itself does not mean the entire population of higher educational institutions in Suffolk is much better than the entire population of higher educational institutions in Nassau on a whole. THAT is what FHDaddy was getting at, not discussing SBU only. If all or even most of Suffolk's colleges WERE actually on a par with SBU, I would say Suffolk wins hands down in this category, but that is just not so.

I am not trying to say anything about "Suffolk is bad" ... I am only trying to counter someone who is making wild over-assumptions about Suffolk's supposed superiority to Nassau on a whole.

I recognize that; just asserting that we do have one rather notable academic institution out here. St Joes, SCC, Dowling, SUNY F'dale have their good points as do Molloy, NCC, Hofstra, Post and SUNY OW.

(Walter -- SUNY Farmingdale -- Nassau or Suffolk?)

FWIW, US News and World report ranks Stony Brook at #111. You have to go ALL THE WAY DOWN to #128 to find Hofstra....lol.

You're right! Nassau and Suffolk are two parts of a whole, Long Island. We belong together for better or worse!

We should be united in defending against the haters who are jealous because they cannot afford to buy any home here and the best they can do is rent or commute to NYC from the sticks upstate (or some other distant and cheap exurb) yet will get on here and ignorantly rant about all that is "wrong" with Nassau and/or Suffolk as if they are "experts." They should stick to playing "expert" on the exurbs above Westchester, the cheap parts of Westchester, or in Pennsylvania, etc., because they're not fooling us!

I know. Dman created the thread simply as a compliment to Patchogue Village. Yet, no good deed goes unpunished!

Who cares which county is better than the other, if you like where you live then so be it. I have been reading this thread everyday and all this back and forth about Nassau and Suffolk is just plain nonesense.
