I wouldn't be totally shocked if it turned out Burke was indeed the killer himself.

It makes one think....sex toys and a man of authority to easily dump the bodies without looking out of place. Will be interesting what FBI comes up with.

The very instant the FBI realized they were being stonewalled by Burke, they would've began checking into him RE: being the killer. They're not stupid. If he was the killer, they'd of discovered it by now, so toss that theory out the window. The man is an idiot. He was making over $200K a year and had one of the top positions in the Dept and he threw it all away to get revenge on some other idiot. Stonewalling the FBI was just petty revenge on his part towards the FBI for starting the investigation into his assault.

I didn't read this whole thread but why isn't the guy who hired Shannan Gilbert the number one suspect? She left his house saying they were trying to kill her. I don't think she was crazy, I think she escaped (temporarily) from people in the house who were trying to kill her.

Well, I've been saying from day one that it's someone in law enforcement or close to law enforcement. People here said no and totally disagreed with me.... Now? Hmmmmm..... let's see what the FBI comes up with. Guarantee it's a cop.

Not to mention the fact (well, actually to mention the fact) that Burke is known to have been in a relationship with a prostitute at one point (1992-1993ish), involved in the John Pius murder, and also possibly involved indirectly in another murder, when a man named Peter Ghattas was murdered in 2003, shortly after ratting on a man named Joe Careccia for committing burglaries and home invasions. Careccia lived 4 houses away from Burke at the time, and the two were known to be friends. Doesn't seem out-of-place at all for Jimmy Boy to tell Joe who ratted on him.

Plus Burke was threatening the lives of any cop who testified against him, and some of the cops actually seem to have taken the threat seriously. Burke seems to have almost no regard for human life.

Involved with prostitutes, no care for human life, carries sex toys and "nasty porno" around, and not to mention being the head of the Suffolk police department gives him a lot of power, something someone like Burke could easily think would make him be able to get away with this. Plus why was so desperate to get that bag back? What if he brought back the "nasty porno" that was with him, because it was videos of girls being tortured, or anything to do with how the Gilgo murders were carried out?

On top of all this, Burke blocked the FBI probe of Gilgo for years. Something seems fishy about this. I would also look at John Bittrolff as a suspect in at least some of the bodies, although Spota already said he was ruled out. But then again Spota is almost as bad as Jimmy Burke.

Now do I actually think the killer is Burke? No. But like I said, I wouldn't be totally shocked if it was.

I'm convinced it was a LEO. I'm sure the FBI has looked into the background of the police in that area . it can be done by a Joe shmo but it sure would be difficult.

Have any of you read the Newsweek article on the Suffolk PD? It seems that the department is pretty much a cesspool of corruption.
