How do you get a Samsung? Is it random or do you have to specifically ask for it or have some kind of special service or whatever? I have the Scientific Atlanta but my boyf says the Samsung is way better. Is this true?

I just walked into my local shop and asked for a new hd box. they said they dont have any SA HD boxes left, only in DVR form, but those wont be used soon either because of the new multi room dvr. I personally dont like the samsung boxes but its nice to have because of thier debut.

VS The Scientific atlanta boxes then yes. They are much better. The samsung boxes change the channels faster .Also the menu screen is full hd on the samsung boxes.

Also to the previous posters. Stop with the verizon fanboy comments. You can have bad boxes on verizon also. Verizon is known for bad billing and is known to charge you full price for replacement boxes and not fix the billing error for 6 months.

So verizon can be just as bad as cablevision.

Lets not forget, Verizon promises you "HD" then puts the blame on the installer when you dont get it.

Which one of your identities did they promise it to? Maybe that id has it and hasn't told you?

For my purpose, the old Scientific Atlanta boxes are much better than the newer Samsung boxes. I refuse to pay every month for DVR service, so I use a DVD recorder to record programs. Unfortunately, that is impossible with the Samsung boxes, because they lack the VCR Timer function. The Scientific Atlanta boxes have that option, which turns the box on and switches to a specific station at a specific time, so that you can record to a VCR or a DVD recorder. I hope that they let me keep my Scientific Atlanta box, since I'd be in trouble without it.
