Which school district does it fall in? I always wondered what school district the Smithaven Mall and all the rest of the stores on the south side of 347 east of 25 belonged in. Talk about cash cow!

I love trader Joes, I especially like their butter nut squash gnocchi they carry. I also like their chicken tenders that come in the bag, very juicy and not dry and rubbery like other brands I have tried. Sometimes for a quick lunch I eat them. I once bought steak from Aldi just to try it, it was awful Good steak needs to be bought at a butcher shop. As the OP said their meat does not look that good. Whole foods has some good stuff but it's very overpriced. I bought fresh shrimp from there 2 years ago for a BBQ I was having. It was jumbo size and I bought 2 lbs. I get it home and unwrap it and the foul smell was gross. Needlesss to say I had to return it and got my money back. The store had to recall all their fresh shrimp for that day.

Seems odd to set up shop so close to the new Trader Joe's, no? Would think that may cannibalize some sales for now double the costs to the parent co. If its like TJ's thats a niche market, and you're not going to steal many customers from Whole Foods (thats a completely different consumer base, IMO) or Waldbaums, which is more of your "one stop shopping" kind of place.
I think if you're going to Aldi's, its likely at the expense of going to Trader Joe's now that its in place there. If TJ's wasn't there already, it would make a lot more sense, IMO.

I see them (TJ and Aldi's) more as complementary than competing. It's convenient having all in one shopping center. If you identify products that you like at Waldbaums, TJ and Aldi's, all can be purchased in one trip to approximately the same location.
Also, for a newcomer-store, that location is great - mall shoppers may check it out of curiousity and become regular customers. If it were out of the way on its own, they may never visit. Will see.

I couldn't understand why TJ's moved from the Circuit City shopping center over into the old Toys R Us on 347 across from Whole Foods. Knowing now that Aldi's is going into the Circuit City shopping center, the move makes sense. I guess the parent company maintained some sort of lease agreement with the owners of the Circuit City shopping center.
Logistically, Aldi's new location will be closer to the bus area at Smithhaven Mall making it a little more accessible to those who rely on buses and who could afford the lower priced Aldi's over TJ and WF.
