LIRR monthly tickets in same zone
Wondering about a LIRR monthly ticket when going from same zone, but traveling through Jamaica. Zone 4 to Zone 4, but with a transfer at Jamaica. Was told a 4-4 ticket was not correct and should buy a 4-3 (Jamaica). Is this correct?

That can't be right, can it? Where the train passes through shouldn't be a factor.
Of course this is the MTA we're talking about....

Asking this for my girlfriend. Apparently the conductor threatened to force her off the train two separate times because of this. I checked the MTA site and you can't do a monthly ticket from the Far Rockaway line to Mineola. We both figured that the only thing that mattered was peak/off-peak and zone #s.
But like you said, it is the MTA.

Seems like you should be able to buy a 4 to 4 pass....but to the guy checking your ticket, he doesn't care you're going from 4 to 4. He only knows on his train you're going 4 to 3.

True, but you can buy a one-way from 4-4 and get away with it no problem.

oh I have a bridge for sale...oh never mind...
One zone tickets are meant to be used for local travel within the zone on the same line.
One zone tickets are not meant to transfer from one line to another line within the zone. If that was allowed, I can see the fraud being committed by commuters with one zone tickets saying they are just transferring to go back on another line to the original zone..then hop on the train at Jamaica to get to the city.
K4...will the conductor sell her a step up fare with the one zone. My guess is most conductors don't look that close and she can say she thought it was a valid way to go to another line in the same zone...she probably argued and thats why she was threated to be thrown off.

K4...check out the MTA website. Put the starting station in zone 4 and the ending station. They don't even sell a monthly if you are going to a different line. They only sell dailies via Jamaica

They really SHOULD sell an "in zone" monthly ticket that would provide unlimited travel within a zone. The only problem is that, aside from zone 1 and zone 4 you really can't go anywhere other than east-west in a zone without leaving that zone to get to a hub.

Thats the thing, Jamaica puts you in another zone, therfore you have to pay to travel to that zone.
