How about an airplane toll/surcharge for every flight over Nassau? Perhaps we can start charging JFK for the thousands of planes that fly over our airspace every day.

Casinos have a huge downside relative to quality of life, walk around Atlantic City and take a look at the area outside casinos and tell me that's what you want for the surrounding communities.
Just because interest rates are down doesn't mean it's a good idea to borrow whether it's a home owner or the county.
Agree with your last statement, Queens gets huge amounts of subsidies from JFK & LGA and Nassau gets nothing yet suffers the noise issues.

Mangano paying $500K to his public affairs staff isn't going to convince me he he is serious, not to mention paying the commissioner in charge of asset forfeiture, a salary of $225K with over $100K in raises the last 4 years, basically a job a college grad right out of college could handle.
Addtionally he went out on a hiring spree right after NIFA approved the new loans, I understand Physicians Assistants, DA's and the other medical jobs but he is hiring 10 people in recreation, does that make any sense in this climate of sacrifice? If you look closely some of the recreation postions have additional credits for sons of firefighters or police, could it be anymore obvious that he is rewarding someone?

Yep. He's talking out both sides of his mouth.
Or maybe both ends of his digestive tract.
The budget for the public affairs staff cracks me up. The White House pays less than that, barring Michelle Obama's press secretary and various press assistants, as I noted in the now-closed thread about the Long Island Press article. Maybe he has delusions of grandeur.
Or maybe he's just a big, fat, hypocrite who is no better than every other politician and only cares about his buddies in their appointed positions.
Do the people of Nassau have better options? Beats me. There's a machine in place, and it keeps churning out garbage. Someone posted a video of George Carlin on another thread, in which he talked about how politicians are products of the societies where they live. It's the truth.

The additional credits for children of police officers or firefighters are for those children whose police officer or firefighter parent(s) were killed in the line of duty. Hardly a "reward" for someone.
Next time you might want to do a little research before posting that kind of nonsense.

It did not appear that the award of credits was appilied to all announcements but I was incorrect. I have no issue with the concept, children of veterans that were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan should also be added to the list.
The main focus of my point was hiring non-esential positions while laying off esential positions, any comment?
