That just gave me a thought!
What if we put the deer on birth control (drop food with bc in it?) to keep them from overpopulating instead of shooting them?
ME, I couldn't shoot Bambi even if I knew she was gonna starve or get run over.

You'd eat if you were starving....you just never starved in your life.
Besides...Bambi wants to die for you.

I wish everyone shared your view (as I do). But sadly Hunting will never be outlawed...it's simply a fact of life that man feels they are superior and therefore have dominion over an animal. Doesn't matter that these animals were here before nor does it seem to matter that we have stolen their habitat giving them less and less areas to roam free. I have never bought into the overpopulation argument and never will. We are overpopulated beyond belief and yet we don't get our herds thinned out.

Maybe if drivers drove more carefully you could see the Deer and stop in time!!

People fly all over here with no regard for wildlife or even other drivers. The streets are full of road kill that may have lingered in pain and horror for hours.
I just thought there would be more out cry from the animal lovers on LI about this hunt.
I sure could get into a fierce debate about hunting in general and the DEC but that is not just a local topic and this thread would most likely be closed.
I live pretty close to the Grumman property and this is just plain sad.

I wish I could Rep you a thousand times
That type of hunt is a 'Canned Hunt' and is the cruelest thing.
I also totally agree with you. We drive upstate and to PA numerous times and have yet to ever run into a deer. WHY? Because we drive carefully.
Where I work there have always been tons of Geese. I can't tell you how much I dread Spring time because it's like a massacre. Dead geese everywhere. UNECESSARY. These aren't highways - there is no need to drive so fast as to run down innocent animals. I've seen drivers deliberately aim for them. Same thing with squirrels.
People like us who care about sentient beings have not been able to stop the NJ Bear Hunts, why would anyone care about Deer being murdered in their own backyard here on LI?

I am actually on the border of Nassau County (literally across the street)and I work on the Nassau/Suffolk border. I don't live near Northern Blvd. so I have no idea what you think you know
In fact there is now some move to re-zone my area to be Nassau County.
Plus hubby is born and raised on LI. We do ALL of our shopping, movies, outdoor activities etc. on LI.
Besides I didn't realize that I was not allowed to know anything about LI because I don't yet physically live there.
