Can anyone recommend a company that abandons oil tanks? Do you know if they test for leaks before they abandon?
Any information will be greatly appreciated. We would like to purchase a house in Nassau, but it has an underground tank that is at least 30+ years old.

Are the current owners still using the tank?

I tried to find out what the "rules" are in Nassua. My parents live in Suffolk and are getting their home ready to sell. They can not sell it with the underground tank. It must either be moved by them or the new owners, I guess written in the contract. Sorry that I do know more.

I bought a home with an above ground tank. The inspector said it needed to be replaced. The oil company said "it is fine", within 2 months it was leaking. It would be best to look for an above groud tank, inspected it, and replace it if needed. I went with Sweezey Oil Company and they were great. Best wishes.

It is best if you have the tank abandoned prior to you moving in and still owned by the current owners. You will need 2 companies, the oil company or plumber to install the new tank and an environmental company to abandon the tank. Some do both. Shoot me message & I will give you the name of the company I recommend.

I would appreciate a referral to an environmental company. I had a local plumber install a new 275 gal ROTH in my garage. I need the 550 underground to be filled with sand or whatever it takes to abandon in place. Thank you

Hi KB,
Can you give me a rough estimate of how much it is to abandon an inground 550 tank plus the installation of a new above ground 275 tank compare to converting to gas? If it is only like a difference of around $2000, I might just go with gas. Also please DM me of that company. Thank you.

I just found this sight and I am looking to legally abandon and underground oil tank that is not leaking. I want to place an oil tank above ground outside of my house. I am looking for a company that does this rather than a company that subs out the work. Does anyone have the name of a reliable oil company that they can recommend?
Thank you.

Where are you located? You also need to make sure you get the certificate of abandonment from whoever does it.....and keep it.

Windmill does tank abandonment and files all the paperwork as well with the county, we used them, very easy. You can google them, they have a website.
