When viewing a house that you like to make an offer for, what are some trouble things that you look for in a house? This is prior to having a professional inspector preview it.

This may be an item of ridicule but I would ask anyway: if the house sits on an ancient burial ground or has a history of ghosts/spirits or anyone dying in it...you just never know....

I know some peoeple will ridicule this like the person above, but there are many cultures that will not buy a house with a number 4 in the address.
Also look for traffic, fire hydrants...
If you don't feel it's right, then it probably isn't.
days on market Because it may have gone to inspection but it failed in one area and continues on the market in the same cycle. I don't know if agents are obligated to answer if it has had prior inspections done already. Then again it could have just been priced too high to start and that's obviously another reason for high DOM.
I personally don't like houses that face oncoming traffic (a house at an intersection of a "T") because you just never know with snow (a car veered into the backyard at my parents' - thankfully a tree saved the house from a direct hit) and also you have headlights at night.

Excellent question. I look forward to everyone's thoughts on the matter. Personally, I'd also look at the neighbors and their homes. I'd ask myself if the people that I see are the types of people that I'd want to be neighbors with (are they renters, white collar professionals, loud, etc.). I'd also see if they are taking care of their homes (exteriors of their houses are tidy and appear well taken care of).
Airplane noise
LIRR noise
Exposure of the house, do you care if your bedroom is bright or dark in the morning
Windows- are they sealed? Do they open and close easily
Appliances-if you plan to hold on to them, test them, make sure all the burners on the stove light, how long does it take for the oven to start or will you need a new igniter
Water pressure for the sinks or shower, people have different preferences for pressure in the shower
fuses or circuit breakers
looking in the winter-don't forget to test the AC units.
Do all the windows/storm doors have screens and what are their condition. They may have been removed for the winter.
