I have not the pleasure of visiting them, but I can imagine that they and everyone else is short staffed at this time of year, simply because so many people are taking their vacation time.

No one is trying to be cute. It's a topic that has been discussed to the point of being trite on these threads. If you are that curious about it, read the many, many threads about it on here. There is nothing to be said that hasn't already been said repeatedly before.

If we lowered everyones salary 30% the cost of living would go down as well.

So lets do it it the private sector as well. All my bills will be cut correct if we cut private sector salaries???......wishful thinking.

Cutting union salaries does nothing to lower taxes.

In fact in Nassau you just got a TAX INCREASE

You have 500 less employees in NASSAU and 400 LESS COPS through retirements. So you are receiving LESS in services while paying the SAME in taxes.

Why? Mangano simply takes salary and benefit savings and uses it to hire PATRONAGE POSITIONS like AL DAMATO's daughter who landed a $105,000 PATRONAGE POSITION while over 500 county employees making much less have been fired.

Plus Ed Mangano has RAISED every single fee in the county.

Moving violations DOUBLED
Parking violations DOUBLED
Licencing fees DOUBLED
Leisure pass fees DOUBLED
County park pool fees increased
Eisenhower golf fees increased
Nassau park fees increased
Mangano borrowed 450 million dollars = tax increase
County Credit Rating downgraded = tax increase
Red light camera fees increased

The Ed Mangano, Al Damato, Mangano Way........

Al Damato's daugher would be getting a 105K patronage position whether Nassau cops made $5 an hour or a million a year. The 2 issues have nothing to do with each other. There's nothing "fair" about that, but it has absolutely nothing to do with overpaying for your police force. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

So much for PBA talking point/lie #XX.

Lowering the salary of public employees 30% only lowers their standard of living.

Salaries of private employees can easily be cut, just don't buy their product, that's the consumer's choice in a free market.

They went from 12,000 employees in the 1990's to less than 8000 today, imagine if we still had 12,000 employees on the payroll. Yes are taxes are the same but even with the layoffs they needed to borrow money (really a tax increase) and sell off county property. I would have rather seen layoffs in some different areas, legislative staff, Manganos public affairs emplyees, BOE, but without any layoffs it would have been worse and they still have a deficit.

And how you judge someones opinion should take into account what their inherent bias may be. Since you identify yourself as a cop, it's pretty obvious that you place the interest of yourself and your friends over those of the taxpayer. There's nothing wrong with that, but it puts your opinion into perspective.
