I maybe moving back to LI in a couple of months. I last lived there 10 years ago. I never owned any firearms on Li when I was there, however, since leaving I've aquired two handguns along with one rifle and one shotgun. Can any of you good folks give me insight on the registration process on LI. I basically like to keep things as simple as possible and dont like headaches. Would it be easy to get these things registered on LI and in NY State, or should I just sell them before moving back and buy new ones when I move there? Thank you for your time and consideration in reading/responding to this thread!
you have two options:
1-Call the Suffolk and Nassau County pistol sections and ask.
2-go to Brentwood, Wyandanch, North Bellport or any other neighborhood City Data has declared "Bad" and buy a handgun.
Option 1 takes 6 mo to 1 year, option 2 takes 10 minutes.
Good luck getting a license in the peoples republic of Nassau. Erroneous wait, requirements and fees (non refundable). Must have a stellar record, every i and t must be dotted and crossed to perfection, 4 ("count 'em FOUR) separately notarized personal references that CANNOT be law enforcement and MUST be Nassau residents...then they can still say no "just because."
You forgot that the references can't be family members, and can't be members of the same family as another reference.

Ditch the handguns. The minute you cross NYC/LI borders you are in violation of the law and they will not be lenient or understanding in the least. Long guns are still legal. Bring 'em or keep 'em while you still can.
I recommmend the opposite. Jump through the hoops, which are mostly just procedural unless you have a history of violence (especially of the domestic variety) or serious, ongoing drug problems. Exercise your rights, less our legislators think we don't care about them and try to take them away all together.

And if your going to the Suffolk PLB enjoy the anti-gun political cartoons!
Hi there, I haven't read through all of the replies yet, so forgive me if I am repeating a past post..If you are moving to Suffolk Cty, you can try calling the police dept in Yaphank. That is where I obtained a permit a few years ago. They are helpful there and can answer any questions you have. Yaphank Office main # is (631) 852-6000
Four years ago I saved a little kids life by shooting a Rottweiler that had attacked the child in the park. Had I not been there the dog would have killed the child as it was locked onto the child.
All you had to do was grab the rott and he would have let go.... amazing outlook though. i got a gun and shoot everything that can be seen as a threat , and i am all for free uncealed carry, but now i wonder if i should be for that...
Apparently giving you a gun you'd use it as a tool to FIX everything you have no clue to work any other way....
Brilliant... rotts will always let go once they are held and lifted.
A dogs jaw locked onto one area is far less deadly than a dog repeatedly looking for a better area and shaking.
