I never said it was about being white, it just "happens" to be white. So I am asking you to suggest to me a town that just "happens" to NOT be white, that has all of the above and I would like to take a drive there (without having to worry about being alone, driving at night, having a door unlocked, looking at someone the "wrong way", etc).
I will be waiting for a reply.

Lakeview, a beautiful African American community located between Rockville Centre and West Hempstead. Feel free to drive through any time you please.

Manhasset?
Baldwin?
Great Neck?
I would have put those on the not-so-bad list.

Shirley is #1 on my list, I lived there for 11 months and it was hell. I know there are nicer parts but my old neighborhood was just awful, it felt like a third world country, people did not take care of their houses and it was so noisy. We were lucky enough to sell our house for a profit and move to a nicer town.

I'd say the most noticeable common denominator is poverty, which I believe is true of any given area to some extent. Being broke will make you do some pretty wild stuff. At the same time, the only real criteria here is opinion. I'd much rather live in Freeport than Plainview and I'm sure a list of LI areas from poorest to richest might be surprising.
I'm also pretty sure someone will come on here and say "black people" two seconds after I post this.

When I hear of people who are in poverty I think of housing projects not of people who are homeowners.

I would rather live in Freeport than Plainview , also. Much more charm and probably a pretty nice place with that Nautical Mile & all.

I'm sure Lakeview is just as protective of its lovely town as Smithtown is trying to be. It's not just poverty that makes people undesirable neighbors. It's values (duh, some of you are thinking, lol). Our family grew up poor but our apartment was always clean. It was shabby and we had hand-me-down furniture but it wasn't squalid. Poor people don't have to be dirty slobs and I don't feel sorry for the ones who are. Those are the ones communities don't want and I don't blame them.
