Default Anyone know anything about affordable housing for Seniors on LI?

My daughter in Riverhead wants me to move from Florida to LI? I like the idea of a Senior highrise because of security and affordable rent. Got any info?

There are many 55+ communities popping up over the island, but they are not cheap. We would need to know how much is ok for you to spend in order to recommend some places.

I think there is a residency requirement for any of the subsidized places such as Paumanock Village in Greenlawn.

I looked at a few two years ago. Leisure Village is attached row houses. They have a community pool and golf course. They have both 1 and 2 bedrooms homes. Some also have an attached gararge.

Leisure Knolls are small (2 bedroom) single family houses with attached gararge and small back yard. I believe you can play the golf course if you live in Knolls. I liked the Knolls better than the Village.

When I looked there, the single family houses were going for $250,000 and up. I don't know what they are now.

Maybe when we retire, we can get the hell out of Florida and move to one of these.

Thanks for the messages. My internet service has been down - couldn't communicate. After getting the true story of the cold weather in Riverhead - think I will look at Colorado Springs at least for a year to get to see the other half of the country, then come back to the SE. I know it gets cold, too, in CS but I hear it warms up quickly.

That is correct. It is open to Town of Huntington residents only.
