new water company in VA - 11.75 a month in fees and 1.74 per 200 Gallons!!!!!!!!

Thats more than 5X as much! Our new neighbors say they pay 90-110 a month for water!
Yep, about the only thing less expensive on LI is the water! We seemingly have plenty of it too. EVERYTHING else is more expensive....in some cases, way above the national average (electricity, gasoline, health insurance, prop taxes). Everything.

Your water rates are high because you are in the Hampton Roads area, outside of that locale rates are far more resonable. I am outside of Richmond and my bill is a third of what we paid in Va Beach.

Just to give you a gauge...The house I purchased was a couple of hundred grand less but it was over twice the size,3 more bedrooms, 3.5 more baths, 3 car garage, brick not vinyl and I think my lot is bigger than 60 x95.. I'm a little over a 1/2 acre.

That house down here could be bought for around 270-300k here
Bigger isn't better. Guess you've never seen Barnum.
