I would venture to say you are mostly right, but not totally.

I can easily afford it, but it's more of a perception of value and I believe that is true for a lot of people here.

Sure, I can afford a Range Rover. But I wouldn't want to spend that much on a car that I think is unnecessary and gets terrible gas mileage.

Sure, I can spend 15K a year on property taxes. But why should I if I don't think the value is there.

It's for dumba**es like my wife that think something is automatically better just because it costs too much.
