Call the cable company, be very nice, tell them how much you love the service, then give a sob story that you lost your job, unemployment won't cover the new price, you're having a very tough time economically, yada yada yada, they'll put you on hold for a minute or so then come back with a price that is equal to or lower then you've been paying. Those phone agents have LOTS of discretion in doing things to keep a customer. Trust me, it will work. I'm paying about the same price for all my service for the last 6 years or so with our local cable company...
In my area they don't offer Verizon, so while I would be on hold they'd look up my address and than get back on the phone and laugh at me and say tough luck.
my bill was 142 for a year then shot up to 186 when the year was up. i called up and spoke to them nicely and they lowered it to 142 for another year and they gave me all the gold channels on demand for free.

See? Being nice can helkp sometimes regardless of the company. Of course, it depends on who you get on the phone. Or....you know....if you work for them.

Not to get in the middle of the lover's spat (TJ and Taz), but I did the exact same thing.
I didn't even pull the fios card, I just said I aint paying it and they dropped it $40/mo. I don't care much one way or the other but if it aint broke I aint fixing it. Wife and kid know the channels and the remote and I'm not messin' with that!
