As a Grand Central/MNRR commuter I'm not looking forward to even more people at GC. Seems like a bad idea - did anyone do a crowd study? Mind you, they're starting to Penn-ify GC already - just a few weeks ago they put up some cheesey LED advertizing screens in the central hall. Soon there'll be a KFC and a dunkin donuts.

Well GCT can handle the crowds , same with Jamaica and Newark Penn station , New York Penn station can not....and its reaching its breaking point...... There also building new Terminal areas with waiting areas under GCT to handle the LIRR , and New Entrances , same will happen when Amtrak and NJT move into GCT in the late 2020s....which will probably make GCT the busiest station in the US.

Here's the current station usage...all modes added....Regional Rail , Subway , LRT etc , future growth factors in Regional growth , job growth around the stations and Rail projects...some new lines will divert ridership from existing stations and too others...but that list is too big to post here...

New York Penn Station (2010 : 440,600 > 2030 : 390,000)
Grand Central Terminal (2010 : 254,000 > 2030 : 540,000)
Jamaica Station (2010 : 220,000 > 2030 : 170,000)
Newark Penn station (2010 : 90,000 > 2030 : 180,000)
Hoboken Terminal (2010 : 70,000 > 2030 : 120,000)
Atlantic Terminal (2010 : 50,000 > 2030 : 110,000)
Secaucus JCT (2010 : 16,500 > 2030 : 55,000)

I bet you have "NJT Rules" hats and T-shirts, it must be so cool !

The people I work with that use NJT into Penn seem to experience many more issues than I do.

So basically its going to go from something which is quite a reasonable and pleasant experience to a rat race there. ugh.

All you're telling me is that they recognize their responsibility and are going to offer more ways to escape in other directions.

wait if everyone's working in Manhattan here and actually concerned about this, why are there so many threads about costs? If you work in Manhattan you don't worry about money!

Well like i said , the Newer Expansions will come with New Terminals , Seperate waiting areas , and New Entrances to handle to growth. I would be worried or concerned about the already over crowded Lexington Avenue line , which unless the Second Avenue Subway is completed by 2018 / 2025 the line could meltdown.

Japan has higher taxes, stronger government intervention in the private sector, and doesn't **** away trillions on fancy bombs and warships that could be spent building infrastructure. Also, it has extraordinarily high population density, which makes mass transportation far more efficient. None of these things have anything to do with corrupt public sector unions.
