Default Any deals for Cable TV and Phone ONLY?

What would be the most cost-effective option for my elderly parents living on Long Island who want cable TV and phone, but no internet? It seems like both Cablevision and Verizon want to package all 3, but my parents have no use for the internet (and I think Verizon is ripping them off with such high expenses for phone).

Their current expenses for a basic package with Cablevision is about $86/month. They have a land line with Verizon and their current bills average about $45/month.

Anyone know of how how I can help them save a few bucks?

say it aint so!!! verizon ripping off the elderly? just take the triple play with cable and dont use the internet. there are customers that get the triple play and dont use the phone so this is the same situation. besides, you or your grand kids can use the internet when they come to visit and take advantage of cables free "wifi" service that virus that doesnt offer.

be prepared for people to doubt that your parents pay $45 for verizon on this site. they live in thier own little worlds and if they havent experienced it nor could they find info on the net, they will rip you apart.

I don't know if they would do a cellphone but you can do 2000 minutes for $80/year with prepaid from Page Plus Cellular (uses VZW towers so they're reliable). That's more than enough minutes for most - I just switched my mom to it.

I am trying to get rid of my home phone line - I get like 2 rings a month on it. Such a waste.

As for tv, unless you do free over-the-air with rabbit ears, you don't have many options... basic cable will be at least $40/mo. anyway.

We get basic cable from Cablevision for $23.96 for my mother in law. It is the cheapest (only carries the lower broadcast chanels). They won't tell you about it. You have to specifically ask for it.

The only way to get broadcast basic is if you already have it and that is your current level of service. Years ago Cablevision started eliminating certain packages so if you had it you could stay with it. If you had a higher package, you obviously couldn't downgrade to a package that no longer existed. They call that grandfathering. They can't force you to leave a lower package but if you do, it might not be there when you get back. Right now the family cable package is the lowest offered by them. I'm not sure of the exact price but it is probably around $40/month.
