Loved the last sentence LOL first laugh I've had since this happened yesterday. I plan on telling neighbors just waiting for hubby to come home from work so he could come with me.
While you're telling the neighbors, see if you can get a neighborhood watch group going including some neighborhood watch signs.
Also, get some home security decals to put on your windows as a deterrant, and if you can afford it, hook up one or two small 24/7 cameras that run through your computer - they're about a few hundred dollars to set all that up. If anything ever happens, vandalism, robbery, etc., at least you can get a picture of the perpetrator on film to hand over to the police.
Something about this story doesn't add up to me. I can't imagine even the dumbest criminal wearing a high-visibility work vest to break into someone's house... isn't the idea to NOT be noticed?
^^ Well I didnt want to be that guy...but I was thinking the same thing. I mean I know their are dumb criminals but wearing a glow in the dark/reflective vest? I dont know??
One would think the suspected intruder would have ran off when the op screamed or seen him. Kinda strange.
I agree with you. He obviously heard my kids screaming "daddy" and heard me scream NO. That told him I was a female with kids, daddy's not home and only one car in driveway. I can't tell you exactly what he was thinking but I can tell you it wasnt good.

I agree, I thought about that too. I don't know if he wore it walking around west islip as he was picking which house to break in to. But I can tell you he probably took the vest off because he disappered down the block. The police officer said he probably wore it so I would think he was some kind of utility worker and let my guard down. he said there are people that go around checking 100 doors a day and hope to find that one door that is unlocked.
