mattolson, if you haven't already done so, when asking about neighborhoods in the New York City Borough of Queens, consider posting these queries at http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-york-city/ (New York City forum).

I don't know any young professionals in Queens Village Keep in mind Parker Towers isn't the only high-rise in Forest Hills. There's the Windsor, Pinnacle, and Kennedy House as well as a lot of six story buildings. If you want to do Long Island, look at the Eagle Rock Eagle Rock Apartments | Long Island, NY and Avalon Apartment Search Web sites.

I'd almost rather a family orientated atomosphere, help me focus on my career a little more.
I'm thinking Queens is just too far away and too much of a question mark commute wise. Minneola actually seems like the best option so far. Doesn't look like I will be living in any high rise on LI.
As much as Queens is awesome for what I want, I need some reassurance that I won't have an hour commute.
Keep the suggestions and experiences coming though. It is all definitely helpful.

I would really reconsider this point. Honestly the cab and public transportation options are not that great at night here on long island (both expensive and not so convienent). I also would not risk the drive in Nassau if you are out, Nassau PD and the local PD's are out at night looking for DWI's.
My 2 best suggestions would be Long Beach (2) and RVC (1). Rockville Centre is actually a quick commute to RF and still family oriented while having enough restaurants and bars to keep you entertained. Generally speaking, most places in Nassau are a pretty easy commute to RF which is right on the highway.
Good Luck!

I am also 24 yrs old, I'll be living with my buddy as well so we would need a two bedroom place. Looking to keep rent around $2500, but obviously lower is better. I want a good, safe area and want the apartment to at least be somewhat new, no basement or anything.
What are some areas that I should be looking for places to live?
I've been told RVC, Garden City itself, and Westbury. But the cheapest rent for any where is those for a nice 2 bedroom is around or over $3000.

I think RVC is probably a good fit for you.
But if you still want to look around the mall, consider Archstone in westbury (archstoneapartments.com). It's by Eisenhower park where there is talk of a dog run opening soon. back in 2007 there was a mold problem due to substandard construction, but ive heard they fixed it.
Also there is a fair haven on Jericho turnpike in carle place and the eagle rock apartments in mineola on old country road. There are also brand new apartments at 47 mineola blvd on the corner of old country road.
Good luck.

Boring = Good. Drive 15-20 minutes for the exciting nightlife and everything else. You don't want to live in an exciting neighborhood.
