I was on my way to Costco in Nesconset (by Smith haven mall)
cops are waiting on Moriches Rd to pull over anyone, I saw guy front of me doing 25MPH on 15MPH speed limit, and he got pull over. Thanks to him, I was saved.
After that I was driving on route 25A made a left turn on to stony brook rd, cop pull me over saying I didn't stop at the stop sign. It was so dark and no one was on that road. Any way, he gave me a ticket and wrote to Lake Grove village.
I went to Lake Grove village court, to fight the ticket. But when I got there, line was out the door. They must had over 100 people in that little room. Every one either paid $125 or $250.
Talk about rip off. Lake Grove court is only open on Tuesday night, they must made close to $20K on one night.
i saw that cop on Moriches Road - he was tucked in by that housing community where Nichols ends. Village police suck...I used to get that crap all the time in Great Neck, doing 25 in a 20 and such.
SCPD writes the violation to the town if it was within the town.
Thereby generating revenue for the village of lake grove. SCPD has a contract to provide police services to the village, else they would have their own police force. Someone must have used the squeaky wheel theory to get SCPD to post a cop at the stop signs and generate some revenue for the town in the name of safety.
Not 100% certain if it applies to driving offenses also, but I beleive fines for offenses such as park after dark or parking tickets being much higher when you have to appear at an incorporated village court.
wow...good to know. I have lived in Nesconset for the past year and never knew Lake Grove was considered a village. Most of the cops over here hang out at the firehouse or do loops up and down Middle Country Road.

Lake Grove incorporated and became a village in 1968.
A map of the Village of Lake Grove in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County:
The Village of Lake Grove has a different border than does the "Lake Grove, NY 11755" ZIP Code postal zone (there are places that have "Lake Grove, NY 11755" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lake Grove and there are places in the Village of Lake Grove with other than a "Lake Grove, NY 11755" mailing address): places that have a "Lake Grove, NY 11755" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lake Grove are in the Hamlet of Nesconset, the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma, the Hamlet of Centereach and the Hamlet of Saint James; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lake Grove that have a "Nesconset, NY 11767" mailing address.
how do I ignore people on this board so I don't have to see maps? I can't find that button.
