Default How is Lake Grove and Stonybrook?

Can anyone give me the scoop? Good or bad or mixed? Areas to stay away from, etc?

Depends what you are looking for. Both are great areas, safe, nice homes, plenty of shopping right close by (Smithhaven mall is right in Lake Grove). I live in Nesconset which is also very nice (just a minute or 2 from both areas). Believe all have excellent schools.

Does either area have a problem with illegal immigrant situation or gangs, or anything that might be considered troubling? Any chance these areas might take a downwards turn anytime soon?

Moderator cut: off topic

Glad to hear... both areas sound good so far.

My ex lives in Lake Grove and I have been driving through there to visit my son for 12 years. The schools are good and the neighborhood is nice. There are some really nice houses in the sections around Hawkins, Moriches & Middle Country Rd.

My only complaint is getting there from the west. The LIE & Northern State are parking lots in the rush hours.

Stony Brook is a wonderful area with a beautiful shopping center by the harbor , a great library and excellent schools. It does have a nearby mall with The Cheesecake Factory right there .

I think both are nice, but I think SB is nicer. Closer to the water, better schools. I could be wrong, but Three Village is suppsed to be quite good. Isn't a lot of Lake Grove in Sachem...which is still good, but not quite as good.
