Sounds like folks are having trouble naming 5 companies left on LI, let alone the 5 "best" ... lol
Truth be told, unless you have worked for a whole lot of them, its not really a question most folks can answer.
IMO, Most companies these days cannot survive here and be "good" to their workers and I will suspect most are about the same to work for at this point. The attitude most seem to have nowadays towards their employee's is "be thankful you have a job" as they take away more and more "benefits". I also believe computer associates has been doing alot of "Offshoring" of work (along with alot of other "Tech" companies).
Supposedly "The Home Depot" is a good place to work (or at least thats what I heard a few years back)

Ex-Islander
My father worked for Grumman during its hay days. Was a great job at the time and a good time for blue-collar folks. I visit L.I. frequently and it is sad to see the place turn into an extension of Queens (my appologies to anyone from Queens). Taxes keep getting higher. I was talking to somene who left Florida for that reason, too. I can't think of any company who would want to set up shop there. Such a beautiful place with all the water.

I've heard good things about Symbol, but now it's Motorola, so who knows. A buddy works at NBTY (Nature's Best vitamins) in Bohemia and said it's a good place...pretty big, but managed like a smaller company.
The thing about LI is that it's a lot of small companies, like mine..with 20 people. It never picked up like Westchester, CT, and Jersey for large back office operations. Though, there have been some deal lately that may be changing that. A large NYC law firm recently took a block of space in Jericho I think, Citi took 200K plus sqft in Melville, AIG took 200K or so feet in Hicksville (former sell-out Chase space), among others. I can see some more deals come down the pike, especially if there's a third track, GCT access, and downtown NYC access. LI would be a transit hub more so that the other NYC metro burbs.
