I had this problem in my old home. Apparently, my neighbor across the street would leave his garbage out for days at a time, thinking that eventually, the sanitation workers would have to pass and pick it up. Soon enough, a windy day would make the garbage from his uncovered garbage cans fly all over my lawn. I repeatedly called the sanitation dept and they would send people over to inform these people that there are regulations and they had to follow them. I lived in the TOH at the time....Eventually, they stopped leaving their garbage out all the time (the garbage covers never came), buy hey, at least the cans wasn't out there all the time. I disagree with those people claiming it's not your business. These people are totally disregarding your quality of life (who wants to live next to garbage 24/7) and are affecting your property's value. Report them!

Lazy seems more like it.. You want white trash, head south towards Alabama. Almost no one here is even close to that.

If it bothers the original poster that much perhaps he should find a few acres and live there so he won't have any neighbors to muck up "his" perception of how much better he and his home are as compared to the neighbors. OR

He could find a new trivial something to worry with that actually matters. Better yet maybe spend the time and energy he worries over his neighbors misdeeds and go volunteer in a shelter or at a soup kitchen. Get a real perspective on what is really important when it comes to misdeeds.

Who are you to judge? How do you know the OP doesn't already volunteer and give to his community?

There's nothing wrong with taking pride in your home and landscaping and being upset because you have slobs for neighbors!

I can't stand when people don't cover their pales or tie up their newspapers on recycle pickup day. We just had a few windy days and I'm fed up with picking up the neighbors garbage off my lawn.

There should be a town ordinance where residents have to have their garbage in sealed bags that are in tightly covered pails.

The garbage men are also to blame. They are always in a rush to empty the pail in the truck, throw the pail 40 feet and run to the next one. They don't pick up the trash that fell on the ground. It just blows on to the neighbors lawn.

Nom, nom, nom. I don't have a problem leaving it out before work at 7 AM; garbage is picked up around 10-11 AM. But I guess it differs according to area.

Are you also someone who somehow missed the basic rules of living together in a first world country?

Don't worry, spread your dog crap on the lawn, leave your trash outside all week, play loud music at 3am during the weekday, park your car halfway across the verge - it doesn't matter when people are starving in Mali does it?

Why don't you take your own advice and go help slum dwellers in Rio instead of getting your knickers in a twist about someone asking advice on an internet forum.

I don't think you are from around here and possibly just trolling. If not, you should know the Town of Hempstead already spells out what is to be expected with residential garbage and can be found here Town of Hempstead

i got the same problem. I have the laziest people next door. 3 generations live there and not one person picks up the can as they enter the house. they all wait for the father to come home to pick it up. That empty can rolls on the floor for 12+ hrs usually
