Default Huge illegal immigrant problem in Patchogue

I remember growing up, Patchogue was really never as nice or as clean cut as the Bayport-Blue Point or Sayville areas, and though Patchogue has seen a resurgence of youth and a new makeover with a vibrant downtown, I still notice the same thing: the illegal immigrant problem.

You may call me a racist, whatever...there is nothing racist about noticing the obvious. Everyday I drive through Patchogue it seems there are 5 straight off the boat looking hispanic immigrants for every 1 average white citizen walking the streets. It's just so shady...you see them riding bikes at midnight, walking around with hoods on, loitering in parking lots, at laundromats, etc. I have noticed many new hispanic stores like "Mi Terrieta" or something close to that, "El Pollo Rico", "Latino Express", etc. These stores were never here decades ago. You have to figure many of these people are here illegally. How do I know? Well, it's a gut feeling...you can tell by the shadiness they don't understand American culture. Beeping and blowing kisses at 16 year old girls is not the norm here, nor is loitering and littering in parking lots as grown men. They have the "NY" hats, but not Yankees hats or anything...they are generic brand like the kind they sell in the city for cheap. You can just tell they are not assimilated at all and it makes them stick out. Legal immigrants are much more assimilated and more in touch with American culture.

I would seriously bet that if I stopped and demanded them to give me proof they are here legally, at least half wouldn't be able to. If you look like you're still living in Mexico and you are in dirty clothes without speaking a word of english, yes chances are you are illegal. Why is nothing being done about this? I swear in 25 years Patchogue will be 50% latino full of many anchor babies.

Get the stats on the amount of children in the ESL classes in the area. Its frightening. Also take a ride by the food pantries. Its amazing how many I see at one particular place but yet these people ride up in late model cars!!

You may find the "Illegal Immigration" forum interesting which is in the Politics and Controversies section (see top bar over topics posted). What is happening to your neighborhood is happening all over the country. I guess it's just spreading out further and further.

I seriously think Patchogue will be a 70% Latino town in the next 50 years. We are told that asking them for their ID is being racist and racial profiling, but what's the alternative? There is no nice way to ask if they are here legally. Put the politically correct BS aside, go up to shady ones and ask for their ID. Once we find out they are illegal kick them out. Deport them. I don't care if you have to make your own Immigrant detention center in Patchogue. They are changing the fabric of Central and Western Suffolk County for the worse. Everything is reversing now...whites in the NY metro area are moving back into the city and the illegals are moving into the NYC suburbs. We need to kick them out...I'm sick of seeing 40 year old men with dirt covered hoodies walking the streets at 1 AM or loitering at hours where you know they are being shady. There is actually 1 laundromat next to Dunkin Donuts in East Patchogue right next to where the Plaza Theater used to be...it's this little ghetto place and everyday there are illegals just sitting around doing nothing. Once I have the money I will move to Manhattan in a nice area without illegals.
Unfortunately the situation is massively political. The current administrations policy is only to target aliens with criminal records and gang members. Day laborers etc. are to be left alone. If they are arrested (and don't have any criminal record) the trial attorneys have been directed to use discretion and drop the immigration charges. In that case the alien could continue living here illegally with out getting any kind of status (employment authorization card etc.). Just a small glimpse into how messed up our system is.

Nothing will be done, it is massive and deliberate failure on the part of the executive branch at every level, and both parties for decades. Republicans want them to work and not vote, Democrats want them to vote and not work.

My Great-Granfather was born and raised in a grand Victorian house that once stood where that laundromat does now. He died in the 80s and often recalled what a wonderful place Patchogue was. A center of commerce, industry, and recreation.

It's staggering to me that waterfront communities on Long Island can be so down at the heels when not too many miles East, the richest people in the world are paying fortunes to gaze at the same bodies of water.

You hit the nail on the head exactly.

Of course nothing will be done; Ponteri, Bellone, Cuomo, and Obama think illegal immigrants are wonderful.

The politicians now put the illegals and their anchor baby offspring before are own native born Americans. They care more about the Hispanic vote than anything else. The Federal government is no longer allowed to do it's job for fear of offending the Hispanics.

Call me what you will, the term racist is so misused and meaningless today anyway it's so watered down. How is it racist to not want criminals in your country? I don't care if they're black, white, purple, or green...if you come here in mass numbers illegally refusing to assimilate no matter how good of a person you are, you deserve to be kicked out. Have you ever heard of "La Raza" aka "The Race"? Now THAT is racist...they say parts of the US is still their land and that they will take it over. These immigrants are not the same as the european and asian ones who came here to work hard, assimilate, and respect the culture.

Just be careful with this thread and make certain that it does not veer into racist rants.
