Suffolk County Is About To Fiscally Implode
"Mr. Bellone said he had been shocked to learn that Suffolk County faced a deficit this year, because just two months ago it had reported a balanced budget."
Shocked, really? Who was cooking the books? Will the DA's office investigate? I want to see criminal prosecutions.
“Everybody always thought Suffolk County was doing O.K.,” Mr. Bellone said.
What planet is this guy living on? When you are paying police officers 150K a year and offering them early retirements with gold-plated health care for life, who do you think was going to pay for this? In the past 5 years, private sector jobs evaporated, sales tax receipts have been plummeting, and you can't shakedown property owners because of declining housing values and the property tax cap.

Bellone will keep on doing it too. PBA owns him. They should have elected Carpenter instead. She wasn't beholden to big union interests. But of course not! How can an election make any sense on LI?

Never say never. Next thing you will see are new "permit fees" for everything and anything under the sun.

This was my exact thought after reading that article...that, or they will start going to peoples houses and looking around outside to see if they can get homeowner's for anything not in their files. I think I heard one of the townships actually use google earth now to be able to see if there are things outside ones house that are not on record or on file with the town. Crazy!

Check out how many Civil Service exams they are offering right now on the County Site.
https://apps.suffolkcountyny.gov/civ...g/Default.aspx
They have no intention of hiring right now, they are just out to collect fees.
What a scam

Suffolk is not alone. Municipalities are going bankrupt across the country, even those that don't pay their cops $150k a year. Overspending and undertaxing (granted, the latter is not applicable here) are finally coming home to roost in a sustained bad economy.

That's what happens when you give away companies to other countries and taxing companies are how you make money. . .

Also just because there is an exam listed does not mean its for the county. Schools, and libraries also hire off those tests.

C'mon guys, $150k/year is TOTALLY justified to have the police sit in the center median of the LIE and stand out of their cars with a radar gun to catch people speeding. I mean, there's REAL DANGER here, folks.

It's hard to take anything you take seriously when your post contains the mannerisms and logic of a kid in high school.
If you're going to make an argument, you could at least make a sound one based on facts and reason.
