If the Vanderbilt Planetarium was completed with its renovations, I'd add Centerport to my visit list.
I didn't realize the planetarium was undergoing renovations. I was last there about 2 years ago and the place hadn't changed a bit since I was in kindergarten! Even the brown 70s carpet was the same.
I live in the Hamlet of Stony Brook. The 'Village' is a shopping center - not a true village in the real sense in that there no longer are any stores (like the supermarket, apothecary, hardware store, etc.) which would truly be able to support the population.
I voted for Huntington. FWIW -- Sayville was left off the list and I had cast my Huntington vote before I realized it. Can I have my vote removed and changed to other for Sayville?
No. The poll is "what is your favorite NORTH shore village?"
While I have a special place in my heart for most of the places listed - Huntington Village for the win!
By OhBeeHave's definition it's even a true village, since we have stores that can support the population (supermarkets, medical offices, pharmacies, hardware stores, etc.) Our last blacksmith closed its doors many years ago, but not before inventing the station wagon! Go Huntington Village!
Hi everyone. I'm taking my husband on a tour of the North Shore this weekend and was curious as to what everyone's favorite villages/downtowns are.
I went with Huntington Village. I'm a bit prejudiced since it's my hometown, but there's just so much to do there fun and culture-wise. Northport is a close runner up followed by Port Jeff and Bayville (although I haven't been there in many years). I love the romantic ambiance and history found in all these wonderful places. Looking forward to showing them off to my husband who thinks of Long Island as the stereotypical 'burbs.
I went with Stony Brook because I like the history and they deserve better than zero votes! Oyster Bay also has a nice history walk.
Honestly, I could have voted for any of them. Huntington has a great downtown, Northport has those nice views of the harbor and Port Jefferson is a great place to hang out.
