Huh?
I have more sympathy, by far, for the "illegal aliens" I see on the street, at least looking for work, than any number of whiny Americans.

Work builds responsibility and character. Without that humbling experience too many folks growing up never experience that dimension of life.
What has happened is that many jobs once done by teenagers and young adults are now being done by hordes of cheap labor legal and illegal immigrants. I remember my first job. I delivered Newsday newspapers after school when I was 12. How many 12 year olds are doing that today?
The old America is being washed away. What is replacing it is too scary to sometimes really think about. Thats why we are all thinking of running, but there is nowhere to really go.

Well put, my friend.
All I could add: military service used to be fairly common. It's a big leveler, class wise (A Time To Die, Tom Wicker's book about Attica, is a good read; quite eloquent on the subject) and it would not do a lot of the young'uns I see around here any harm to do a few push-ups, and have to get up at 6 AM.
I never delivered papers, but I was a foot messenger in Manhattan while I was in HS. Funny, isn't it, how rich folks are such sh---ty tippers?

This is what I responded to; nothing about whiney Americans. I too have no love for spoiled, lazy Americans no matter what race they are(whites do not have a monopoly in this area; a majority, yes, but not a monopoly). I also paid my dues like most of you. I grew up in Queens, was a paper boy(how sexist!!!) for the Long Island Press, shoveled snow and carried groceries for tips at Bohacks'. If I've achieved any measure of success in my life it's because I worked hard for it. I don't like the idea of the world hating me for owning things and being white. My opinion is that you believe the above mentioned quote to be fact. I do not.

I can "sort of " understand what you're saying if I try and dig deeper into your meaning but on the surface blanket statements like that are completely ignorant IMO. Everyone has different reasons for complaining. Some people work more than others...some not at all. Some people that make mountains of money and live high and mighty I have even less respect for than the people you call whiney due to the way they earn their money taking advantage of unsuspecting naive but well intentioned people such as some of the elderly etc etc....so making blanket statements like the one you made adds nothing more than negivity to this rock.
An intellegent conversation or a well defined statement would go much more appreciated and add food for thought.
Ilegal aliens put a LOT of hard working people that PAY TAXES out of work...so your statement is plain ignorant and self indulgent.
Just what we need in this country...more ego trippers that think they know all thats right. Have another drink and tell us how you really feel.

Maybe in your world they do ( I know your white; mores the pity), but such a blatently racist comment reveals more about you than the white race you so despise.
But, wasn't Daedalus being facetious, really?

Then he should qualify his remark as being in jest. What would the response have been if you substitute the word 'white' with either black, latino or muslim?

Well I guess too it makes you wonder when someone puts in their profile that they're "white" like he does. Why on earth would you need to tell people you're white?
I guess there's nothing wrong with that but it does make you wonder.
Even when I fill out personal forms and they ask me my religion or race I leave it blank....just rubs me the wrong way. Just what this world needs!
I was brought up in a really diverse neighborhood in the projects of Queens as a kid growing up...my black friends and Asian friends etc would walk me to Hebrew school every day after public school ...then when my parents moved us into The Valley (stream)...thats when I saw real racism with swatstika's drawn on the sidewalks in front of our house...maybe that made me real sensitive to it all...I dunno?

There would be picketed, someone would have to to resign from somewhere, and there would be a whole new wave of affirmative action benefits.
That being said, itsn't this thread about Best Towns on LI? How do we always let Mr. Happy hijack everything?

No, I have not. But I'm completely appalled that some servicemens families have to get food stamps to survive; so should everyone be.
