This is about the dumbest idea ever.
I was out there a few weeks ago and stopped at the display of jet aircraft off of 25A. We once actually produced something of value on Long Island. The Calverton site should be preserved as it is - we may need it again in the future.
At a minimum it should be allowed to go wild and be a large preserve for deer and other LI wildlife.
or a ZOO that would be better than the Bronx Zoo. I hate going to the Bronx!

bad idea
First-For all of you out east who apparently haven't heard of Meadowlands Xanadu
Colony Capital - Meadowlands Xanadu
for those who do not know they are putting a 780 foot indoor slope plus many other activities no one from NYC including queens will want to go to calverton over this.
Secondly
Who wants to drive 2-3hrs east from NYC when 2-3hrs north brings you to the mountains.
Its a waste and all it will alow for is other large buildings.
Unfortunately Eastern Long Island best assets are Recreation and Travel, maybe organic farming. But wih the Cost of living and unfavorable taxes no midsize corps would want to set up shop there.

The problem is they voted for a insane project instead of the Rex Corp plan which would and will bring jobs, business and money to the town and region...
But the empty head phil cardinale is blinded by his own vision of where he thinks RHT will be with this insane decision...
They forgot about the commack hill, and bald hill...but a indoor enclosed mountian needing more power then long island has will be the answer to all...
The answer to all is the rex corp proposal and we are fighting to have this insane decision rescinded and have Rex Corp brought back to do what it is everyone wanted from the begining...instead of being ignored by a yet again town board that thinks it does there own personal interests and not that of it's constituents ....wonderful govt on that town board...
Thousands of people were ignored when they made that decision...

This is true, we handed and mailed in the letters, technically we used ups for them and have cardinales signature for 1 batch of a few thousand letters and then we guess his secretary Susan signed for another batch of a few thousand letters.....funny how when you mail/ups thousands of letters of what the people wanted to a town supervisor they mysteriously disappear..
The letters that did go directly thru the town clerk are still there and those are still a huge majority of what the people wanted.
Cardinale has lied about other property left there but it is not 400 acres, there is another 200 acres or so but the majority of it is protected under pine barrons and water refil aquifer zones making that left available property about 40 acres of buildable land.
