I cant park in the mornings so I'm buying a bike to goto the Merrick or Bellmore stations. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will i have the same problem where none of the bike racks are available just as the parking spots arent.

Most likely drive in like i've been doing. I am pretty close to the station though so poncho might do it. Just not walking distance. Im getting very sick of driving into the city all the time.

TOmorrow I'm planning on biking to the station. If there are no bike racks available, is it legal to just chain it up to the guard rail on sunrise highway?

I don't know but what will a cop do? Give the bike a ticket. More likely someone will come by and steal your bike.

Newsday just had an article that Bellmore and Merrick residents want commuter parking stickers for those two stations. Seems non-locals are hogging the spots as those towns are the only two on the Babylon line that dont have parking restrictions.

I guess I was concerned that the ToH wasnt okay with it and if a cop saw it he would radio a bicycle tow truck (patent pending) to come and clip the lock and impound my bike...

OMG!! Which politician(s) do I call/write/harass everyday until my death to create commuter parking stickers in Bellmore/Merrick! Theres 3-4 massive lots that if you dont get to by 800am you dont have a chance in hell to park at. I think there's more spaces than there are people in the towns (exaggerating but still)! Its absolutely rediculous that I'm paying taxes, some of which I'm sure goto LIRR, yet I can't park at my own station

If I'm lucky i can find metered parking spots in Valley Stream however at that point I'm just like i might as well drive into the city...which is what i do..

Usually no one minds when you lock your bike against a signpost. Look around there's usually somewhere out of the way that you can lock a bike.

For rain wear raingear and get fenders on your bike. For cold... layers. I assume your trip is short (mile or 2)

There are bike racks at the Merrick station. Make sure you use a bike that you don't care what happens to it. If it doesn't get stolen it will probably get vandalized.

Some stations like Wantagh have bike lockers that you can lease - (A big box for you bike). I think that is a great idea but they are too few and too expensive.

Park in the lot on grand ave, there are usually spots. The earlier you get there, the better your chances of finding parking. Parked at Bellmore everyday for 3 years and I never had a problem.
