Does going to Splish Splash for a day really break the bank? Who is to say how much this Skiing resort is going to cost? And I agree, I understood it was to be a vacation destination, for others to travel to, more than for only LI'ers to enjoy.
Maybe b/c they don't have school loans to pay off they have the $? Could that be the difference between some and others? B/c none of these people have college loans hanging over their heads....

Thats because a majority of LI as well as the rest of the country use Credit Cards to live.

Then this has nothing to do with LI specifically if that is the case, which we are talking about LI specifically here. And no, not everyone I know is living on credit cards to be honest.

My question is do we really need another attraction.
The whole Island is an attraction.
Thats why its so expensive to live here.
(Who knows...maybe a winter one will do well)

Clamboy, the answer to your question is NO!!!
Why don't we just rename Long Island "McDisney Island." We can all be effing cartoon characters working for six dollars an hour. What a waste of a great site in Suffolk County. I wouldprefer to see the land revert back to wilderness than be turned into some half-assed indoor ski resort.
Once Long Island was known for its ducks, potatoes, Cold Spring Harbor labs and aerospace - now will be known for being effing clowns. Where is my costume?

Last time I looked (last week, actually), Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory was still alive and well and in fact has grown even more in size and prestige during the past two decades. DH's work is closely allied with that of CSHL, so that subject is something I am qualified to speak knowledgeably on.
Even a cursory Google search will show that Long Island is still known for its farm products, the most recent addition being its many wineries.
The commercial fishing and sportfishing industries seem to be still thriving there as well, from everything I have read.
I'm not familiar with the history of the aerospace industry on Long Island but surely there are many other places in the US that were once identified with a specific industry but aren't any longer (the "buggy-whip industry effect") due to no fault of that particular region?

We have a winner! When we summer vacation up there it's for the beaches, the food, sailing in the Sound, and even hitting Adventure Land for an evening. I think a more beneficial use for the land could be found that would help the Island and not just snow skiiers. Maybe a nice shanty town for the illegals. (that's just a joke BTW)

suffolk county is still is the most productive county for agriculture in new york state.
I think the development is a sin, but the wheels are in motion & they are saying it will take AT LEAST 10 years before it opens. It's less than 3 minutes from my house & having a "luxury" ski resort so close will make my house in the lake community VERY desirable. It will be intersting to see how & IF it all plays out.

Noooo Kelly Nooo
Dont be duped....thats gonna put a hurtin on your property value.
Whats in it for Ridge?
All the traffic...none of the tax benefit.
Luxury...my a$$
Wait till you see the skels from the city that come out for this gem.
Youre gonna wish you never had it.
As for agriculture....the land is toxic it will never be farmland again thanks to Grumman.
It would have been a prime location for a technology park, college, airport, dragstrip: )
Anything other than this.
Be afraid Kelly be very afraid.
Get to a civic meeting....fight like hell.
