And you're right, an indoor ski park is IMO a very stupid idea. Why not light industrial, why not a mixed residential/office/retail for the land which plays into the idea of getting people commuting Eastward. BTW I live and work close to one here and it's really nice. Welcome to Innsbrook Today Magazine
But LI is stuck with the usual, to quote fopt66, "envirnomental groups, short sighted politicians and NIMBYs", that won't let anything happen that might actually benefit the Island.

Well after we get FERC'd with Broadwater....all bets will be off on the Sound.
A bridge makes sense to me
Then theyll sat the bridge poses a terrorist threat to the supposedly safe floating LNG bomb.
Amen on the mixed use.
Dick Amper ....we need you buddy not DiCarlo.

More likely it was some corrupt backroom deal. Not only that, but I bet local taxpayers will
be footing the bill for any necessary improvements in the area.

The entire site is a mixed use. This is only about 25% of it. Plus, this site has a number of attractions along hotels and fractional ownership, along with retail...so yes, mized use was considered.

from the site
"IMAGINE . . .
. . . a leisurely stroll around the crystalline lake; skiing on perfect snow in the middle of July; floating down the lazy creek in the tropical hideaway; breakfast on the veranda overlooking acres of horse-filled pastures; an invigorating hike or horseback ride along Pine Barrens preserve trails; relaxing in the rustic elegance of the Wilderness Resort; navigating the challenges of the white water kayak river; cheering on the regional finals of a juniors soccer tournament; competing in a friendly game of tennis; exploring the colors and beauty of luxurious gardens of the world; pampering body and spirit in the wellness spa; reflecting on a stunning sunset from the lakeside village boardwalk; ; trying your hand at mini-golf or games of skill; taking in the lush fragrances and colors of the local farmers' market.
IMAGINE . . .
. . . this and more in any season, in all four seasons at Riverhead Resorts. "
I'm moving there LOL

Imagine having to take a hit on the pipe to believe this will happen.

Everyone I know in LI (mostly 30 somethings who bought their house within the last 1-5 yrs) has the money to go on vacations, etc and I certainly don't associate with only the rich on LI, that is for sure.

clamboy,
There is no Roosevelt Raceway land left. They have built apartments and townhouses on it.

Build it. It will attract locals and out of towners. You would have this, plus Tanger, Splish Splash, the wineries and farm stands, the beaches (etc.) of the Hamptons. The area is truly becoming a destination.
I still think there should be a major amusement park like Great Adventure on the Island, too.
