Yeah, I remember when this died and they built those apartments on the North Side of Jericho Tpke. at the north terminus of NY 135. What killed it, of course, was people with money (Mill Neck, Centre Island) who did not want the bridge built through the Oyster Bay/Bayville area.
I'm not too sure the people in Connecticut were too receptive to the idea either, (although it would have opened up some ocean beaches for them instead of trekking to Rhode Island or the Cape). They did not stand to benefit as much as LI people. There were also plans to build from William Floyd Parkway if I remember correctly.
Imagine the Vermont ski resorts only 2 1/2 hours away . Day trips to Stratton and Okemo !!! Oh well, maybe in our next lifetimes.

Ever heard of Broadwater?

Actually that was supposed to go to Rye.
New York State Route 135 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's a summary of the bridges that were proposed, and there were a lot more than I thought.
Long Island Crossing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This one finally solves the mystery of Rt 231 for me.
New York State Route 231 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Babylon-Northport Expressway (NY 231)

Makes one wonder what LI would be like today if these roads and bridges had been build, though most look to have been DOA.

My expectation is that they will not be receptive. After all...it's the LI'ers who are trapped, not the CT'ers.

A feeling that one immediately gets when they leave LI (either permanently or temporarily) is the feeling of freedom to travel in any direction. LI is east-west. Even if you took a compass and drew a 100-mile radius from the center of LI...it still has to be east-west to get off the island.

I would support it. It definitely would give us a way off LI and ease the traffic that leads upstate (ever try to go on a nice weekend?). It would also make commuting for work in CT much better. BUT I am shore the north shore residents will do the NIMB.
