Loads of mug shots here Long Island Fugitive Finder - Making Long Island a safer place by helping us apprehend New York's most wanted criminals but no indication of where they get them, unless the police links on the page indicate that they get them directly from the police? It doesn't look like an official site at all and the paper version in the store has ads so it might be a for-profit publication?

I've always wondered myself where they get these mug shots so any ideas on figuring it out are welcome.

I've always wondered how they can post mug shots of unconvicted people on the internet. Seems like a serious violation of civil rights. You get falsely accused of something and they can basically ruin your life. Good luck getting a job.

There was that big squabble over Newsday's drunk driving "wall of shame," right? Do they still run those?

The sources that post them ask for them from the police department and they have to provide them because of the freedom of information act.
