I'm in your district , and am one of many others that have hired an attorney because of the games that are played here. I can recommend an attorney as well. Her name is Christina Thivierge, and her phone# is 212-397-6360.
Things have to change--I only hope that groups such as Septa can unite parents so everyone together can change the system and those controllling it.

Hewlett-Woodmere is a good school district, however they do not currently have a program for children on the Spectrum. Most of their students that are classified with ASD attend the Lawrence Schools program for children with ASD.
Hope this helps

I have a daughter in Herricks who has PDD, and this district is TERRIBLE! If you are ok with your child being shipped out of district, then Herricks is for you. But, I believe they are incredibly discriminatory against children with any type of behaviors that might be a distraction to the "normal" children in their schools. They do not integrate, and keep children either out of district or within a self-contained class-room, not exposing them to the other children in the schools. It is terribly discriminatory! My daughter is 10 years old, is shipped to a school 45 minutes away, and has not been able to meet other children in the neighborhood, based on this district's practices. The DO NOT believe in the least restrictive environment, which is a child's rights, but are more concerned with the concerns of the parents of normal functioning children who may have to be exposed to children with special needs. THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT IS NOT BENEFICIAL FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN, unless you subscribe to such discriminatory practices. It is a shame that this is still taking place in 2009!

Rockville Centre has NO program. THey say they do. It's an inclusion model. Hmm. If you want to call a regular class of say 22 and a special needs kid with an aide inclusion, then so be it.

Hi, does anyone know which districts have great Collaborative Teaching Team classes where the special ed. teacher co-teaches with the reg. ed. teacher ALL day? I am looking at Plainview and East Northport and Elwood so far. Any information anyone has is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Deb

My son is still in preschool. Any feedback on Barbara C. Wilson NorthShore school, HASC, Marcus Ave. Brookville school or Little Village?

Levittown has a co-teaching model where the special education teachers and general education teachers teach together all day and every day.
