Corey Beach in Blue Point or Meschutt Beach in Hampton Bays. Meschutt has a great snack bar.

i'm pretty sure the fee is for a carload of people ... here is the link :

Suffolk County Government > Departments > Parks > Parks > Cupsogue Beach County Park
The fee recently went up, not sure but I think it's now $8 for green key holders, $13 for Suffolk county non-green key holders .. I don't know the fee for non-residents ...
Beware the parking lot fills up on good weekends by 11Am , and stays filled until 3-4pm

I like Cooper beach. We usually try to park free and then walk or bike to the beach. I do not like that any place to eat or drink there (in town) is with off-the-chart pricing.

Most often, we go to Smith's Point. Park and then walk west on Fire Island, away from the crowds. It is a fine line, though - to get away from the big crowds and to not hit the nudist/gay area...
I like to swim there, but there are some dangerous undercurrents often.

My closest, West Meadow beach on the North Shore, is good for walks off-season, and perfect for sunsets.

East Hampton Beaches are the best on Long Island, but it's hard to go there on weekends because parking is limited to residents.

Apart from that Robert Moses is my fave.

That is the correct answer. The best beaches by far are the Village of East Hampton beaches (as opposed to the Town of East Hampton beaches).

On July 4th, caught a documentary on channel 13 - Jones Beach Boys - about lifeguards/old-timers on Jones Beach:
Jones Beach Boys (2007) - Plot Summary

Almost 2hours but with some interesting characters - enjoyed watching it. The oldest guy was 79 and most likely in better shape than me - still swimming and running fast enough to pass the lifeguard yearly exam.
