Awwww...Mr. Happy's back! Break out the marching band...perhaps a cool urban one from the S. Bronx rather than a corny suburban one?

[quote=sean sean sean sean;1641531]Clam - I work on the road, exclusively on Long Island (meaning LI the geographic area including Brooklyn and Queens) so there's very few parts I haven't seen. I can be anywhere from Bay Ridge to Sag Harbor on any given day, usually multiple places. Nowadays it's centered more around Nassau & Queens but when I started we were based out of Yaphank and I still make plenty of trips out there. I enjoy this a lot too, I like seeing everything and the traffic doesn't bother me...it seems as if you've gotten the impression that I'm down on Suffolk and this is simply not the case. I enjoy it for visiting but as for living there, personally it's too isolated for me...too far removed from the rest of the world. I like the population density of Nassau for living, but I won't deny that I prefer most of Suffolk for killing some time with a full tank of gas.
Also, to refute Jrprofess, even though I was born here I'm not an LI lifer. I lived in and around the lovely Capital Region for the better part of 3 years...not even for college, just for very cheap living and a fun atmosphere. I plan to be gone again very soon (wish me luck -- interview in Brookline, MA next week) but ultimately I'd like to settle down here one day too....maybe by that time Suffolk will have sidewalks and streetlights and I'll be in love with it.[/QUO
Thats cool......Nassaus Queens east to me

Almost all of the gorgeous neighborhoods do not have sidewalks. I love that, always did...
every town I have wanted to move to has no sidewalks.

They will all be waterfront homes, when the big hurricane eventually hits.

Go see it...you'll get it.
You can eat off the roads there.
Nice Village Amenities etc.
(only half the town is in the Village)
Have dinner at La Plage too.

It really is.
Granted the Taxes are rough but they keep it spotless.

PS
GC should move to Shoreham Village and Gobble up as many Rocky Point Commercial properties as he can.

Not sure where I called you in particular a "lifer"...my comments were just an observation on long island natives...and I married one. I lost the right to leave the island in our prenup contract (we also agreed to divide all of our debt in half ). But I will say, your counter argument that you lived outside of long island for a few years, but have subsequently returned might actually make you a lifer after all (teasing). Massachusetts is great, aside from the Red Sox and Pats fans...

I grew up in Garden City then spent my 20's and early 30's in West Hemp and Hicksville. Every 6-8 yrs I need a change so I moved to Old Stony Brook/SB Harbor. Wow it was beautiful!!! All I had known about SB previously was my sister's area near the mall (w/curbs). After a few years I moved to Strongs Neck (Setauket) waterfront. Along the way I collected a few (or 10) other homes as old as 1880's but mostly 1930's-50's. I had 2 small homes where the taxes were $2500 ($1750w/star). If anyone is looking for a beautiful spot on a Peninsula with down to earth, old $ try Strongs Neck. Prices start around $550k-$600k. My water front is currently on the market for $790 (short sale).Right across from Strongs Neck is Old Field which is a mix of mostly old and some new $.
I am in the process of moving to Florida and just finishing selling my clients homes. I am just looking to try something new and start fresh after some family situations and real estate issues. I am having second thoughts because I love Suffolk county North Shore and without a doubt I would never move back to Nassau (well maybe GC). I have owned 5 homes in suffolk county and only had to call a cesspool company once and that was for my waterfront (lived there 4 yrs). When I drive into Nassau (usually to malls) I go into culture shock... feel like I'm in the city...so rude. Anyway, I feel like I am on the Orlando post with all the people who complain about the rude NYers taking over Fl.

FL would be a swamp w/o those rude NYers.
