Moving to LI
Hi everyone-
I'm a new poster on this site. My husband and I are currently househunting, and hope to move to Nassau County by the spring. We currently live in Forest Hills, Queens. I'm originally from Staten Island, and he's from Wantagh. We are looking in Bellmore, Merrick, East Meadow, Plainview, and Wantagh (although we prefer not to be too close to his parents..more than 5 minutes away, preferably! ). I appreciate any opinions, suggestions, advice anyone has to share about these areas. Thanks!

IMHO Forest Hills is nicer than most of the areas you listed, why the move...Forest Hills is beautiful?

I love Forest Hills, and I am going to be sad to leave. The convenience to manhattan, the restaurants, shopping, etc. is wonderful. We are currently renting a one bedroom, which we have outgrown. We briefly considered buying something here, but we really want a house rather than an apartment. There's no way we can afford a house here. Also, we're planning to start our family within the next year or two and would prefer to be in the suburbs by that time.

What price range are you looking at? All these areas are pretty spread out between simple capes and starter mansions. If you're looking at eastern Nassau, look at Seaford, Massapequa, Levittown and Bethpage too. They all have very similar characteristics.
Generally it's a great spot, I live here I don't know anyone that has anything negative to say about it.

I grew up in Massapequa and liked Bellmore, Merrick and Wantagh as all 3 are close to the water. Dated a guy from East Meadow -- EM had no 'personality' and no appeal other than being close to the Coliseum.
Plainview never appealed to me.

I agree, Plainview is not my cup of tea. North Shore attitude and prices with South Shore housing. Actually I think it might be my least favorite area in Nassau.

I think Wantagh and Merrick top this list. Solid areas, good schools, tight communities. I think Merrick could be considered a bit more upscale, but both are nice. I doubt you could go wrong with either. Do you have a price range?

Wantagh or any areas she listed are HALF as dense as Forest Hills, that is for sure.
