Well, it's not just a "house naming ceremony". Family & friends gather for a house warming picnic/dinner, the priest attends & blesses the house (at which time the house is named during the blessing), and a tree is planted (to symbolically compensate for the wood used to build the house). Sure it's a bit pagan/animist but so are many traditions.

A little pretentious unless you're in Bill Gates Territory, money-wise ...unless you are just going to giggle about it amongst yourselves.

I went to college with a girl (from LI) whose house had a name - and that was the address too. They are a pretty wealthy family.

We had friends who bought a beach house on LI and named it "Chateau Catastro" ( Cah tas tro). It was right out of the movie The Money Pit. Eventually it was beautiful and the mocking signs of Chateau Catastro still stand as a reminder of those early days.

For some a home is not of an exaggerated importance and, therefore, worthy of a name. Look at it this way, demolition derby and truck rally vehicles have names...is that Bill Gates territory?

How about Villa Villekulla?
- it's light and funny (fun place)
- pays homage to your Swedish ancestry
- if your house is Victorian - even more fitting

Thanks for your suggestion. If we had more sq.footage and lived on more acreage and could at least suggest the impression of self-sufficiency I'd consider the "villa" moniker. As for Villa Villekulla...a little too "girly" for me (readers: Villa Villekulla is the fictional home of Pippi Longstocking by Swedish author Astrid Lidngren).

Mine is Casa De (my last name)- so original I know. It's actually more like a shoebox but whatever.
