Default I wonder where to start looking....

Long Island is too expenseve. I have a nice house in Medford, but nice nice enough for the money. I wonder where I should start looking if I were to relocate somewhere that we could still commute to the city for work, get lower taxes, and more for the money. I have 3 kids--11, 7, 5; so schools are important. My house is worth about $350k (not much), but I need to have lower mtg payments because we can't keep up!! So needless to say, we'd have to buy a house way cheaper, but is it possible?? Call me racist, but I really don't want to live in a ***hole of a town if you get me. ANY SUUGGESTIONS??????? I'm desperate and financially drowning.

Whats going on over there...My buddy is in North Patchogue and it was nice 4 years ago...now its all day laborers.
Hes trying to get out, he cant unload the house...nobody will touch it because the neigborhood has declined beyond recognition.

Is Medford falling too?

Id say downsize to Sound Beach.
(Still can commute from Ronkonkoma...its Exit 63)

Great schools, much lower taxes.
Pretty nice too.

Well I HATE Suffolk County. All white trash where I am. I'm a Nassau kid but I can't afford to live there. I've been here for about 5 years and although the neiborhood (sp?) is pretty safe, IT SUCKS! There are about 10 houses for sale just on my block alone. I'm guessing most of it is because nobody wants to live here TAXES!!!! COST OF LIVING!!! And then you gotta pay to live in a place that's loaded with poor trash. It just doesn't make sense.

So you do wanna leave.

Medford is to Suffolk County
What Hicksville is to Nassau

Sorry you bought in a rough area.
Id stay the hell out of the Middle of the Island in either county.

If you want to stay on LI start looking for foreclosures. Many ARMs are coming due, and if many people are like the genius in today's newsday(single mom loan officer bought over her head in Manhasset on interest only loan which is now doubling in monthly cost) there will be MANY for the picking.

Poconos? But some areas are even worse than Medford, so be careful.

Yeah, almost every day. The neighborhoods off of Jamacia/Southaven ave are really nice. I wouldn't mind living in Medford. I'd take it over most of it's neighboring towns anytime, and it's more affordable too.

It's definitely nicer than the neighboring towns but unfotunately thats not saying too much these days.
(kind of like Central Islip is nicer than Brentwood...I wouldnt want to live there either)

Theres that small piece of Old Medford thats very nice (just ike Patchogue has Roe blvd).
Unfortunately Pat-Med is paying the high pirce for cheap labor.

Its a shame...I lived in Patchogue in the 70s.
It was beautiful before it was overrun with Section 8.
Magical even....I loved it.
